RIWATCH Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage
Supported by
CDSL MUMBAI
Introduction
Owing to rapid modernization and shifting social landscapes, many tribal communities are facing the risk of gradual erosion in their traditional knowledge system and their sustainable living practices. In the process, it is affecting their age-old rich cultural heritage and social norms. Therefore, recognizing the urgent need of safeguarding their cultural heritage, the RCICH has introduced various initiatives to ensure that these invaluable cultural traditions are preserved and nurtured for future generations.
With this concern in mind, the RCICH is providing a dedicated space to the communities to promote, preserve, and protect their intangible cultural heritage before it disappears.
The Centre’s mission is to work closely with communities to preserve, promote, and protect their intangible cultural heritage, ensuring that the unique expressions of tribal societies do not disappear within the larger mosaic of global populations.
Objectives
In pursuit of this mission, the Centre has outlined the following key objectives:
1. To document and archive traditional knowledge systems, customs, rituals, music, dance, crafts, and other intangible cultural expressions of indigenous communities.
2. To collaborate with communities, cultural practitioners, researchers, and other stakeholders to ensure inclusive and ethically grounded heritage preservation.
3. To organize workshops, outreach programs, and related activities aimed at fostering public awareness and appreciation of intangible cultural heritage.
4. To support initiatives for the revitalization and transmission of endangered cultural practices, ensuring their continuity for future generations.
