RIWATCH successfully concluded a three-day intensive workshop on the documentation of the Aka Hrusso language and culture, held from November 20 to 22 at its Campus.
Organised by the RIWATCH Centre for Mother Languages (RCML), the workshop was aimed at verifying and refining linguistic data collected during a field study conducted in July 2025 in West Kameng District, while also producing comprehensive audio-visual documentation to support long-term language and cultural preservation initiatives.
During the programme, RIWATCH researchers worked closely with community resource persons to validate previously recorded wordlists, sentence structures, and folktales. In addition, new linguistic and cultural materials were generated through extensive audio and video recordings, enriching the existing documentation corpus. Special emphasis was placed on recording demonstrations of traditional Aka Hrusso musical instruments and cultural expressions, reflecting the community’s living heritage.
Six distinguished resource persons from the Aka Hrusso community—Duva Dususow, Dibru Dususow, Miali Sidisow, Sipa Saksa, Mrs. Anu Jebisow, and Dorjee Khandu Thasusow—participated as knowledge bearers. Their linguistic expertise, oral narratives, and cultural insights played a vital role in ensuring the authenticity, depth, and accuracy of the documentation process.
A significant highlight of the workshop was the donation of traditional Aka Hrusso artefacts to the RIWATCH Museum, including musical instruments, a bow, arrows, a quiver, and a spear. These culturally significant objects will strengthen the museum’s collection and serve as valuable tangible resources for research, education, and the preservation of Aka Hrusso heritage.
