RIWATCH Participates in Bahu Bhasa 2025: Celebrating India’s Linguistic Diversity at IIIT Hyderabad

The Research Institute of World’s Ancient Traditions, Cultures and Heritage (RIWATCH) made a notable presence at Bahu Bhasa 2025, a national festival celebrating India’s linguistic diversity, held at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad from November 6 to 8, 2025.

Organized by the Open Knowledge Initiatives (OKI), IIIT Hyderabad, the three-day festival brought together academicians, researchers, policymakers, and cultural representatives from across the country. The event aimed to foster collaboration on language policy, digital inclusion, and community-led documentation of India’s rich linguistic traditions.

The institute’s display drew wide attention from academicians, researchers, and policymakers, emphasizing the importance of community-based research and multilingual educational resources in sustaining India’s linguistic heritage.

During the event, Dr. Mechek Sampar Awan, Head of the RIWATCH Centre for Mother Languages, highlighted the linguistic challenges faced by the Northeast, noting that most of its languages remain under-documented and digitally excluded. His address called for inclusive policies and collaborations to ensure linguistic equity for all communities.

RIWATCH’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to linguistic documentation, revitalization, and cultural preservation, while strengthening partnerships with institutions like IIIT Hyderabad to advance digital and educational inclusion for India’s lesser-known languages.
