RIWATCH, in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi, organised a two-day workshop on the implementation of the “From Voice to Script” project at the RIWATCH Campus on 3–4 October 2026.
The workshop brought together community representatives of the Sajolang and Tagin tribes, linguists, academicians, researchers and technical experts to discuss practical, community-oriented and sustainable approaches to the documentation, preservation and development of the two indigenous languages.
The two-day programme included discussions on the current status and documentation needs of the languages, community participation, linguistic analysis, digital documentation and long-term archiving. The sessions also focused on building technical capacity within the communities and exploring appropriate linguistic and technological tools for systematic language documentation.
Participants discussed implementation strategies, identified key areas of responsibility and explored practical steps for taking the “From Voice to Script” initiative forward. The workshop emphasised the need for a collaborative approach in which community knowledge and participation are integrated with linguistic expertise and technological support.
The programme also highlighted the importance of creating sustainable systems for documenting oral languages and preserving linguistic materials in digitally accessible formats. Such efforts can help ensure that indigenous languages, oral traditions and community knowledge are recorded and made available for future generations.
Through the “From Voice to Script” initiative, RIWATCH and IGNCA continue to support community-led efforts towards strengthening indigenous languages and safeguarding Arunachal Pradesh’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage.
